Come and celebrate Diwali, the Indian New Year, with rich cultural entertainment bringing you the essence of India.
A classical Indian dance form with a modern twist, Brisbane-based Infinity Kathak Dance Company presents a fusion of Traditional Kathak Dance with a live musical ensemble of eastern and western instrumentalists. The dance encompasses a rhythmic play with a 7 beat time-cycle, a recital that progressively crescendos to a climax with dynamic footwork, graceful whirling movements and dizzying pirouettes. A traditional rendition is accompanied by the beats of live tabla, bansuri (indian flute), hindustani singing coupled with the fluid viola and jazzed with western drums.
Dr Helena Joshi, artistic director of Infinity Kathak, brings her rich lineage of authentic Kathak dance from India to Australia. She is a disciple of Guru Prerana Deshpande, an international exponent of Kathak dance. The Show will commence with a Infinity Kathak’s student dance recital demonstrating a kaleidoscope of Kathak elements with elaborate costuming. This will be followed by a heady explosion of energetic, intricate beats and bells in harmony with the intoxicating melody of live musicians.
